An oil filter (oil filter element) can filter sand that enters the engine to a certain extent, but its effectiveness depends on the size and quantity of the sand.

The oil filter's primary function is to remove debris, colloids, and water from the engine oil, including harmful impurities such as metal shavings, dust, and sludge, ensuring the cleanliness of the oil and preventing wear on internal engine components. It also delivers clean oil to all lubricated parts, providing lubrication, cooling, and cleaning. Therefore, if the sand particles are small and few in number, the oil filter may be able to filter them out. However, if the sand particles are large or the quantity is high, the oil filter may not be able to completely remove all the sand.

To ensure engine cleanliness and effective oil filter operation, it is recommended to regularly inspect and replace the oil filter. Routine maintenance typically includes changing the engine oil and oil filter, typically every 5,000 to 10,000 kilometers. Regular maintenance can effectively extend the life of the engine and reduce maintenance costs.

Please note that if sand or other impurities accidentally enter the engine and the oil filter cannot effectively filter them, it may cause severe wear of engine components, thereby affecting engine performance and life. Therefore, if sand or other impurities are found in the engine, it should be promptly inspected and repaired by a professional auto repair shop.
